Congratulations on your engagement!
As a community, all of us rejoice with you as you prepare to enter into Holy Matrimony. As tempting as it may be to get caught up in all the details of planning, there is an important truth to remember. Very few people will remember the details of your wedding. After it’s all said and done, it won’t matter what color the bridesmaids’ dresses were or what flavor cake you served. But when you love one another sacramentally—as you are called to do in Holy Matrimony—everyone will remember your marriage.
Why is that so? Because a good marriage has the power to change the world! Children raised in a loving home where Mom and Dad are head-over-heels in love with one another grow up to be more secure and successful and have the greatest chance of repeating that cycle in their own lives. Best of all, they grow up with a more intimate knowledge of Who God is because they’ve seen God’s generous love in the lives of their parents. But it doesn’t stop there. When a couple lives out their wedding vows, they become a living sign to the rest of the world of how generous and loving our Creator is. When you love like you are called to love, you help other people love, too. Your love literally flows out of you and changes the world one person at a time. Sacramental marriage is an awesome privilege and a huge responsibility, so we don’t take it lightly at all.
Sure, the wedding guidelines we’ve put together for you will help you in planning a beautiful wedding ceremony. But more importantly, they will steer you toward a lifetime of loving. We are prepared to give you the very best that our Church has to offer in terms of marriage preparation, and we ask for your very best effort in working with us.
Go to Mass. Attend adoration together. Pray for one another. Pray with one another.
