When can my child begin preparing for First Holy Communion?
Baptized children who have completed one year of religious education can begin preparation for First Holy Communion in 2nd Grade.
Typically, a child begins formal religious education in the first grade, therefore allowing her to begin sacramental preparation in the second grade.
The Diocese requires that all children be prepared for 1st Reconciliation prior to preparation for First Communion.
Children who attended catholic school or were homeschooled the previous year must provide "proof of classes," at the time of registration, for the previous year and proof of enrollment for the current year from that school/church. If you register for classes online, please email, fax or mail proof to the Director of Regligious Education as soon as possible.
At St. Paul's we interview all baptized 6th - 11th Grade youth who have a desire to receive 1st Reconciliation and 1st Communion. This interview is an opportunity for us to get to know each Candidate and determine the best preparation process for them to follow. Most youth will enter a process we call FOUNDATIONS. The Fall Semester is foundational Catechism. The Spring Semester is preparation for the Sacraments and we encourage them to enter a regular CCE class as well.
